p>All over the world, there has been an increase in natural gas consumption with an annual growth rate of 2.5 per cent. As at June 1998, natural gas had contributed about 2 per cent to the world's total energy market. There is a global preference for natural gas as a source of fuel as a result of its low sulphur and carbon emissions, cost efficiency as well as greater efficiency of the combined cycle power generating plants. It has been said that over 50 per cent of all generation capacity that has been commissioned the world over in the last two years is fuelled by natural gas.
