Liberalisation of the Italian electricity market

Summary
The liberalisation process of the Italian electricity market has been recently started since the implementation by Legislative Decree No 79 of 16 March 1999 (lgs D No 79/1999) of the EU Electricity Directive. Broadly speaking it can be said that Italy complies with the mandatory provisions in this EU Directive. However, the electricity market has not been totally liberalised, nor did the Italian legislator provided for an ultimate date by which the market should become fully open.
