Introduction

On the 27 and 28 of October 2006 all oil companies operating in Bolivia, including Total, BG, BP and Repsol, signed a total of forty four (44) Contratos de Operación ("Operations Contracts") abiding by the terms of the nationalization program dictated by President Evo Morales. The Operations Contracts came into effect in May 2, 2007 and today the signatories are going through a cumbersome adaptation process, learning to operate under the new terms and to interact with the re-nationalized Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos ("YPFB").
