The Samsun-Ceyhan Pipeline

Introduction
On 18 May President Ahmet Necdet Sezer approved a government decree nominating Calik Energy to build a pipeline between Samsun, on Turkey's Black Sea coast, and Ceyhan, on the Mediterranean coast. The pipeline will transfer oil from the Caspian basin via the Black Sea through Turkey and then onto the world market. It is a highly significant development on a number of fronts.
