Pipelines in Geopolitics and in International Relations
Article from: OGEL 4 (2006), in Pipelines
Abstract
The year 2006 have incontestably been the year of the "diplomacy of energy". Venezuela, Russia, China, Iran: each actor of the "Great Game" of energy, widened from the banks of the Caspian Sea to dimensions of the world, made oil and gas pipelines instruments of power, of blackmail, if not of expansionism and conquest.
Recent means of transport, the pipeline is now becoming one of the vectors of the international relations, in areas of the world which do not appear among most peaceful. As there is a geopolitics of oil and gas, there is a geopolitics of the pipelines.
