Introduction
p>The World Energy Sector faces major challenges over the coming decades. Besides a general tendency towards restructuring and allowing market forces to play a more important role, there is a continued and possibly growing dependence on imported energy by major consuming areas and the emergence of new energy producers in new, often land-locked nation states. Consequently, larger volumes of energy will have to cross more borders, from production areas to consumer markets. the political and commercial risks and uncertainties of such grid-bound transit will have to be minimised.
