Drivers and Barriers to Cross-Border Gas Trade in the Southern Cone

Abstract
This paper analyses the main drivers and barriers to the expansion of the gas market in the Southern Cone. The paper shows that in addition to possessing large gas reserves and a relatively developed international transmission infrastructure, the Southern Cone countries complement one another well in terms of gas supply and demand. Brazil is a major potential importer of natural gas, while Argentina and especially Bolivia have significant potential as exporters.
