Executive Summary
In France, renewable energy policies have been developed only recently, especially in the electric sector. However, Directive 2001/77/EC dated 27 September 2001 on the promotion of electricity produced from renewable energy sources, sets France a target of 21.0 per cent of gross nation electricity to be produced from renewable sources by 2010. Electricity generation from renewable sources is only subject to prior notification or authorisation given by the Energy Minister, depending on the capacity to be built.
