Professor Gerard Ryan

Gerard Ryan graduated from the University of Sydney with First Class Honours degrees in Economics and Law and a Masters Degree in Law with Honours. He was admitted as a solicitor in June 1991 and was admitted to partnership in July 2000.
Professor Ryan’s expertise includes the documentation of electricity derivative transactions using the International Swaps and Derivatives Association framework; competition law issues in the energy sector; the documentation of large energy infrastructure projects; greenhouse gas regulatory schemes; renewable energy power stations; carbon trading; and regulatory issues in the National Electricity Market.
Professor Ryan has advised some of the major generators, retailers and network operators in the National Electricity Market, as well as various government and regulatory bodies. He has extensive experience as a speaker at industry seminars and, most significantly, in the recruitment, training and mentoring of young lawyers within the Sydney legal profession.
