Jonathan H. Hines was a partner in Morgan Lewis's Business and Finance Practice until he retired in September 2021. Mr. Hines has more than 20 years of experience with investment transactions and related counseling of clients. He has been involved in projects including large-scale oil and gas and mining development projects and mergers and acquisitions transactions and financing in Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and the other republics in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as well as other industrial ventures in this region.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Hines was a partner in the corporate practice of an international law firm, where he regularly advised private, state-owned, and corporate clients and government agencies in connection with the development and application of the Russian and other CIS republic legal regimes in the energy and general foreign investment sector. He also has assisted clients in connection with a number of Russia-related arbitration proceedings in Moscow, Stockholm, London, and Paris. Mr. Hines is currently serving his third five-year appointed term on the Panel of Arbitrators of the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Russian Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Mr. Hines earned his J.D., with distinction, from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1978 and his B.A., with distinction, in Russian studies from Princeton University in 1974. He is fluent in English, Russian, French, German, Danish, and Norwegian.
Mr. Hines is admitted to practice in New York (U.S.).
