Jose Benjamin Torres coordinates the Real Estate & Infrastructure Practice Group in the Firm’s Juarez office and is the lead partner of the Energy, Chemicals, Mining & Infrastructure Sector Plan in the Mexico offices. He is listed among the recommended lawyers for project finance by Who’s Who Legal: Mexico 2010, and has been named one of the leading advisers of the Firm’s Energy and Natural Resources Practice by Chambers Latin America. Petroleo & Energia also recognized him as one of the 100 leaders in the energy industry in Mexico. Mr. Torres is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators and Mexican Academy of Energy Law. In addition, he is a member of the Energy & Natural Resources Law Committee and Paso del Norte Group Executive Committee of the US-Mexico Bar Association, and co-chairs its Alternative Energy Task Force. Mr. Torres has been a professor of law at the ITESM, Campus Ciudad Juarez since 1999.
Practice Focus
Mr. Torres handles all legal matters related to real estate development and construction, mining, infrastructure and major projects. He has assisted clients in the development and construction of oil, natural gas, LPG, LNG, biofuels, power and energy efficiency projects and public tenders called by Pemex, CFE and other entities. He also represents clients before the Mexican Energy Authority in matters related to the procurement of permits. In addition, Mr. Torres regularly advises clients on various issues related to his field, such as due diligence, development, permitting, contracting, financing negotiation and key regulations related to sale, acquisition, lease, sublease, easement, construction, maritime transportation, trust, insurance, utilities, environmental and Ejido issues in connection with energy, hospitality (tourism), residential, mining and industrial projects.
