15 November 2005 - DUBAI: Prysmian Cables & Systems won the largest of five contracts worth $1.1bn to build a power grid to link Arabian Gulf states including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, creating the region's first market for trading electricity, an official said. The Milan-based company, in partnership with Nexant Inc, will link Bahrain to Saudi Arabia via an underwater cable at a cost of $343mn, Saleh Alawaji, Chairman of the GCC Interconnection Authority that's overseeing the project on behalf of the six Gulf governments, said in an interview in Jeddah yesterday. ...
