The Governance of Energy Megaprojects: Politics, Hubris and Energy Security (B.K. Sovacool and C.J. Cooper) - Book Review
Published 16 April 2014
Introduction
This book assesses the dynamics of large energy infrastructure projects. The literature on energy infrastructure projects is limited and more is needed, and hence this book is a welcome addition. With the on-going global economic recession financing new infrastructure of any type is a difficult process but even more so for transboundary energy projects such as those covered in this book. Indeed the challenge facing any author when researching new energy projects is to move the analysis beyond just a discussion around the difficulties in securing finance, and in this book the authors do achieve this.
The text covers a myriad of issues and takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of energy infrastructure projects. There is a discussion on technical, economic, legal, political, social and environmental challenges for each project analysed. The book is divided into seven chapters with the first two chapters setting the scene and the aims of the book. Then there are four case studies in the four following chapters. The conclusion provides an overview of the lessons learned from these four case studies.
